A Klein Collins High School student is being airlifted to the hospital after falling from a balcony, officials say.
The fall happened around 1 p.m. at the school in the 20800 block of Ella Blvd. and Cypress Road.
Klein ISD released this statement on the incident:
"At approximately 12:40, a 9th grade female student climbed over the 2nd story railing and fell to the floor below. Campus administration and nursing staff were immediately on the scene. The student was initially stabilized by EMT personnel and then taken by Lifeflight to the trauma center in the Houston Medical Center. A parent and family members arrived prior to Lifeflight leaving the campus and will meet them at the hospital.
At this time, we don't know the circumstances behind her climbing over the railing.
Crisis counselors are at the campus to work with students and staff affected by today's tragedy.
At this time, we do not know the condition of the student. More information will be released as available."
The Klein ISD and Klein Collins administration are deeply saddened by today's incident.
Klein ISD meet with the press at 3:30 pm at Klein Collins High School on the front steps of the building where district spokesperson, Judy Rimato read a statement.
"Stating that the condition and injuries of the student are still unknown. They are unaware of what caused this student to react this way."
